**LAKEWOOD POLICE OFFICER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ACCIDENT**

A Lakewood Police officer is in serious condition following an accident in Lakewood, TLS has learned.

The officer was driving home after work at around midnight Friday night when the accident occurred.

According to surveillance video obtained by TLS (not being published at the moment per request of PD), the officer was traveling eastbound through a green light on Cedarbridge Avenue when he was struck by a driver who blew through the red light at a high rate of speedfon New Hampshire Avenue. The impact of the accident sent the suspect’s vehicle down the embankment.

The officer suffered serious injuries was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition.

The other driver, said to be in his twenties, was also transported to JSUMC, and was then taken into custody, awaiting charges.

The accident remains under the investigation.
